Using Sumnote with Slack
How to connect Sumnote to Slack, use it in your channels, and remove it when you’re done.
Overview
Mention @Sumnote in a Slack conversation and it reads that conversation, then replies with the tasks, decisions, and questions it found. Your team reviews them in Sumnote, so nothing lands on your board until you approve it.
Install & connect
- 1
Connect your workspace
A workspace owner or admin connects Slack once for the whole Sumnote workspace: open Workspace → Integrations, find the Slack card, and click Connect Slack. - 2
Connect channels to projects
From the same card, connect each channel you want Sumnote to read to a project. - 3
Invite Sumnote
In Slack, invite Sumnote to each of those channels with /invite @Sumnote.
A channel works only once it’s connected to a project and Sumnote has been invited to it.
Use it in Slack
Mention @Sumnote in a thread and it reads that thread. Mention it in a connected channel and it reads the conversation just above your mention, at most 15 messages. It replies with the tasks, decisions, and questions it found, which your team reviews in Sumnote.
Commands
- /sumnote help: the commands
- /sumnote mine: your own work
- /sumnote note: add a task
- /sumnote status: whether the channel is connected, to which project, and whether it’s paused
Manage & remove
An admin can pause or disconnect a single channel, or disconnect Slack entirely, from Workspace → Integrations. You can also remove the Sumnote app in Slack, which Sumnote notices and treats the same way.
Troubleshooting
- Sumnote didn’t answer a mention: type /sumnote status in that channel. It tells you whether the channel is connected, to which project, and whether it’s paused. A channel works only once it’s connected to a project and Sumnote has been invited to it.
- You got a message from Sumnote, but you don’t use Sumnote: someone in your organization uses Sumnote and has connected it to your Slack workspace, and work there has been assigned to you, usually from a conversation you were part of. The message has buttons to acknowledge it or say it isn’t yours. To stop these messages, ask whoever runs that Sumnote workspace to remove you from its People list, or email us.
For anything else, see the FAQ or email support@sumnote.com.
Privacy & data
Sumnote reads only the conversation someone mentions it in, and only in channels connected to a project. It never reads in the background, and never reads direct messages, private channels it wasn’t invited to, or files. Nothing from Slack is used to train AI models. Our Privacy Policy sets out exactly what it keeps.
